The last week

This is my last week in the Netherlands before I leave for Australia. Backpack, Australian Dollars, Visa, and an international driving license are organized… It’s raining like crazy here and I can’t wait to step on the plane :-)

Ex-Porn-Star farewell party with Chicadeliq to say goodbye to Cafe Barok

Foto

The original plan was to have a Miriam’s-off-to-Australia farewell party at Cafe Barok at the 5th of november. A few days ago the owner of Barok announced that Barok is going to close at the 1st of november.
For a lot of people Barok is a place where you can come for a coffee or a beer to have a little bit of small talk but also firy discussions and deep conversations. However, you could be sure, that you would find someone to talk to, to laugh and/or to cry with. That’s why lot of people call Barok their second living room.
And then there would be also the parties and concerts in the weekends. I haven’t been to many places where people celebrate, party and drink (a lot!) and still be happy, friendly and honestly enjoying themselves. I am happy that I could experience some very magical nights there.
The last time we will celebrate a memorable night is going to be at the 31st of october, the night before Cafe Barok will close her doors.

Paradiso was amazing

Last thursday I played at the Paradiso in Amsterdam. Well, what to say? It was an honor for me to play at such a beautiful venue with so much history. I had never been there before (also not to see a concert) and just walking into this amazing building already made me happy to be able to play there.
A bit after 9 o’clock I got on stage and looked into an audience of 200 people. Even though I was nervous I very much enjoyed to sing and make music for the people. They were very kind to the support act ;-)

I guess its a natural reaction, that if you experience something good, you want more of it…
Before the soundcheck I poped my head into the big room of Paradiso. I so wanna play there one day!!!

Miriam’s “Off to Australia” party with CHICADELIQ

A few years ago a friend and I were having dinner together and we were talking about which instrument we would love to learn. She wanted to play drums and I wanted to play piano. We deceided that we should start a new band…
Another girl who had never touched a bassguitar before was the perfect bassplayer for our band and a guy who is an actor and always dreamt of singing in a band, was going to be our glorious frontman (and the only man in the band).
At a Santa Claus party we found the name for our new band. CHICADELIQ

What was supposed to be a joke and a short term hobby turned into a creative and pretty crazy project. Everyone was learning his/her instrument while composing songs with the lousy amount of skills we had.
The bassplayer used only one finger in the beginning and I used only my right hand to play piano, because my coordination didn’t allow more; the drummer didn’t know how to put her drumset together and the singer was confronted with a lot of female hormones, jokes, comments and opinions on singing during the first rehearsals.

After a few months we felt ready to record a demo and played a release concert (our first gig) at a youth club.
Some more concerts followed and in autumn 2007 Chicadeliq went on “tour” to Berlin. A crazy enterprise…driving 600 km with a completely overpacked car and sleeping on the floor of a tiny attic. Carrying all the equipment to the 5th floor every night after the show… still having the energy to perform a playbacked show on the Alexanderplatz with a ghettoblaster.

When I deceided to go to Australia for three months and people started asking me if I would have a farewell party, I immediately knew, that for a good party there wouldn’t be a better band than Chicadeliq.

Sooo…
I am really looking forward to play with the crazy folks on the 5th of november in Cafe Barok.
To get a good dose of barbie trash rock before I leave the Netherlands for three months is exactly what is needed.
