…is where I’m going to play a concert at the 4th of January.
Kate Adams will accompany me and there is a baby grand piano, which I am looking forward to play on!
Through the last week I heard a lot of musicians say, that they would love to play at the Basement.
I feel very happy and grateful, that after being in Sydney for less than a month, I am offered the opportunity to play at the Basement.
If you wanna know more about the concert on the 4th of jan check out the website of The Basement.

After playing a fair bit of concerts in the last month and after meeting a lot of new people, I decided to take a few days off to “fill my well”.
I visited a dear friend that I hadn’t seen for 10 years. It’s strange how different it is to see old friends again. With some it takes a little while to overcome the moment where you don’t know what to say besides “so… how have you been? what have you been doing?” and with others you just connect immediately without realizing that so much time has passed. I don’t think that this says anything about the friendship, it’s just interesting to realize how different it can be.
To “fill my well” we went to the Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane. They have a beautiful exhibition called ‘The 6th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art’. I saw some amazing and inspiring artwork there and realized how much I love to look at beautiful things…

The tree in the mist was a whole installation. The tree was fixed to a turning stage and it kept disappearing into the mist and returning again. I felt as if being in an asian nature dream world.

This was a canvas about 16m² big and completely made with glitter paint.

I think this moose was the main attraction of the exhibition. It was a real stuffed moose covered in glue and glasballs. These animals are huge… and if you got closer you could see it’s fur through the marbles.
Pretty impressive!
The whole exhibition was free. I didn’t have to pay to get in…
This is the link to the two galleries.

A few days later I headed towards Byron Bay to have some time alone, walk the beaches and be in the nature.
I don’t know what it is, but when I’m at the sea I become calm and serene and I can’t think of many other ways how I could get into that state of mind.
And again I realize how much I love beauty…

Since i didn’t have any gigs booked in Brisbane I played at some open mic nights there amongst others at The Music Kafe in Westend.
It felt actually pretty much like a concert, maybe because some friends who also brought their friends came to watch me perform. I really enjoyed that evening and the enthousiastic reaction of the audience.
Thanx people for coming!
The fan on the right side of the photo was extremely loud, but without it, the place would have been a full on sauna…

(making my setlist before getting on stage)
I might also be playing a gig together with Karla Harrison just before christmas or around the beginning of january. Karla is a friend of mine who lives in Brisbane. She makes really beautiful music and is working on her Solo CD at the moment.

Last thursday I packed my backpack and piano and started my trip to Queensland.
I stopped at the parents’ place of a friend close to Coffs Harbour. They have this really amazing house in the middle of the nature and right on the boarder to a state forrest… After so many cars, people and constant sound in Sydney, standing on that veranda of the house and looking into the forrest felt like a huge relief. Suddenly I became really calm and I felt a tiredness that I haven’t felt for a long time.

The next morning I got in my car and headed towards Toowoomba. A city which is 150 kms away from Brisbane. I was going to play at the Bon Amici, a little cafe in the centre of the town.
My navigation system led me a few strange ways and sometimes it didn’t know itself where we were, I think. Anyway, on the detours I saw some really beautiful forests. Riding on a street and not passing a car for an hour, listening to Anthony and the Johnsons and just enjoying the beauty around you. I forgot how liberating travelling can feel.

…and then after hours of driving…( I am starting to get used to drive on the left side of the road now)
I arrived at the cute little cafe called Bon Amici. The main act that evening was a band from Melbourne called Tinpan Orange; these guys make really nice music!
There was only a small audience, but the people gave all their attention to what happened on stage which was very nice.

And at the end of a very long day, my motel room and bed were finally waiting for me…

She will accompany me on the 29th of january in Newcastle by playing cello and doing backing vocals.Maybe we will also play one or two concerts in Sydney at the beginning of febuary.

SIA was sold out so I went with two friends to the Enmore Theatre in Newtown to check if there were people selling tickets at the entrance. It didn’t look too good at the beginning, but in the end we had three tickets. Probably the only ones that were sold before the concert. Yeah!!!
…and she was just unbelievable! Putting me on a roller coaster of emotions for the whole concert.
I was moved by her ballads and the honesty with which she stood on stage and how deep she would take you. When the song would finish she would tell funny stories or make jokes with the audience. Then she would start playing a song that made you wanna dance and party all night.
She’s a brilliant performer with an amazing voice and it was a precious experience being pulled into her world for 2 hours…
